DESCRIPTION:
EPW - William Story, London, fusee, 46mm, at least 18K gold (tested) OF original consular case bearing London hallmarks for 1765, casemaker's incuse "D A" mark, case bezel with champleve enamel in deep blue color, case back with an engraved sunburst gold pattern contrasting a champleve enamel scene in deep blue color of a young man and woman, KWKS, WED with winding aperture at 4, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced & engraved foliate scrolled balance cock with grotesque mask at the neck, s#1384. Gross weight of assembled watch 47.8 dwt (74.4 g).
CONDITION:
Mvt: GRO, good balance motion, good escapement function, near mint mvt condition overall, plates show bright gilding with some typical MFS and mild FS; near mint dial with only miniscule edge flaking at 7 and a short small surface scratch in lower center; excellent hands overall but with tarnished minute having a bend near its base; original case shows very little wear, some areas of enamel loss with the most signifiicant being below the woman on rear, enamel with FS and MFS having greatest profusion at center, nick or small ding along front/rear seam at 6; button latch with good function but area of loss to its gold cap; bow & pendant original; good domed glass crystal.
